A crossing of Gewürztraminer and Müller-Thurgau developed in 1953: aromatic intensity at a more refined, balanced level. This is the wine that makes people stop mid-conversation and ask: what is this?

Pálava is a rare Slovak white wine, born from a 1953 crossing of Gewürztraminer and Müller-Thurgau and grown by Chowaniec & Krajčírovič in the Malé Karpaty. It combines the aromatic intensity of Gewürztraminer with a more refined, balanced structure.
Taste
Tropical fruit, rose petals, honey and warm spice on the nose. Lush and aromatic with a long, spiced finish. Serve well chilled, around 8°C, in a white glass with enough bowl to let the aromatics develop.
Pair It With
Veal, goat cheese and aromatic vegetable dishes.
Why It's Different
Most aromatic whites are either delicate and forgettable, or intense to the point of one-dimensional. Pálava manages the middle ground: real perfume and spice on the nose, with enough structure on the palate to stay interesting over a full glass.
The Estate
Chowaniec & Krajčírovič has been farming these slopes since 2001, and the family that started it still runs it today. Pivotal Wines imports it directly: no distributor layers, no markup stacking, no compromise on what arrives in the bottle. Meet the estate →
Worth Knowing
Grown almost exclusively in Slovak and Czech vineyards. Small-batch, harvest-limited: when this vintage sells out, the next one looks different, because the estate doesn't chase volume.
A Gift, Too
Pálava is one of the top picks in our wine gift guide. Free shipping applies on orders over €75 — mix in another bottle from the collection to get there.
